Fort Wayne Medical Oncology and Hematology Earns National Recognition for Patient Satisfaction
PATIENT SURVEY RANKS FORT WAYNE MEDICAL ONCOLOGY & HEMATOLOGY WITH LEADING CANCER CARE RATING
Oncology Medical Home patient survey satisfaction ratings exceed national averages
FORT WAYNE, IND., February 14, 2022 – The Community Oncology Alliance (COA) announced today that Fort Wayne Medical Oncology & Hematology received among the highest patient satisfaction rating of all participating practices in a national survey for cancer patients. Based upon ratings from patients with cancer, the COA Patient Satisfaction Survey results reveal the practice achieved among the highest overall national rating. This is the ninth year this survey has recognized the high-quality cancer care provided by community oncology cancer care teams nationwide.
Fort Wayne Medical Oncology & Hematology, which serves patients with cancer in 13 locations, including Fort Wayne and 11 surrounding counties, performed strongly in all areas of the survey. The 2021 rankings of the patient experience as reported by actual patients exceeded statewide and national averages. The practice, which achieved better than the national averages, is ranked as among the highest in the nation.
COA’s Oncology Medical Home (OMH) Patient Satisfaction Survey tracks cancer patient experience and satisfaction nationally, statewide, and by individual practice. With more than 192,000 individual patient surveys completed since launching in 2013, the OMH Patient Satisfaction Survey solicits patient feedback about their care providers and all aspects of treatment, including communication, thoroughness of information given, and staff friendliness and interaction. It is based on the standardized Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) and uses questions specifically designed for cancer care.
“Fort Wayne Medical Oncology & Hematology is proud of the high-quality service we provide our patients. The OMH model challenges us to make continuous efforts to improve the care and services we offer. The feedback allows every team member to understand the value in patient satisfaction, improve processes, and ensure an ongoing excellent cancer care experience for all patients. The efforts of our team members over the past year have led to additional outreach into our surrounding communities, including Northwest Ohio, extending office hours to 7 days per week, expanding participation in Clinical Research Trials, and the addition of a Palliative Care Clinic, and a same-day Walk-in Clinic. These efforts have kept our patient’s need for hospital services over 25% below that of our peers. Better care equates to better satisfaction results”, said Julia Renno, Operations and Quality Executive, at Fort Wayne Medical Oncology & Hematology.
The OMH Patient Satisfaction Survey was developed to assist cancer care teams in learning from their patients regarding their care. The model is a guide to identify and implement a comprehensive oncology care delivery system that is focused on quality of care. It is an all-encompassing model meant for patients, care teams, and payers of all types,” said Bo Gamble, COA director of strategic practice initiatives. “Feedback on patient and family experience is especially important to the cancer care team. All aspects of cancer care should be focused on the patient. This Survey assists the patient’s care team in the commitment to the highest quality cancer program through all aspects of the patient’s journey.”
Independent, community oncology practices like Fort Wayne Medical Oncology & Hematology treat the majority of patients with cancer in America and are committed to improving oncology care for all.
