Our History

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the excellent care … and for explaining everything so well to us. We always felt as if we mattered to you and weren’t just a number.
– Don and Jane Stachler

Since its incorporation on May 18, 1977, Fort Wayne Medical Oncology and Hematology, Inc., has focused on one thing: providing the very best in cancer care to patients in northeast Indiana. It was Dr. Steven Meyer who initially saw the need to provide local cancer care in northeast Indiana. Previously, patients had to travel to Indianapolis or other major cities for treatment.

Over the next few years, the practice grew to six medical oncologists and hematologists. As the number of physicians grew, so did the demand for space. In 1992, the physicians moved from their office at Parkview’s Randallia Drive location into a newly built medical office on State Street. For the next 15 years, the practice continued to grow, increasing its team to 11 physicians, and adding a second office and a PET scanner on the campus of Lutheran Hospital in 2007.

In 2008, we had outgrown our space yet again. Our practice had grown to 12 oncologists, two physician assistants, and three nurse practitioners. So we made the decision to move from our State Street office to a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility on the Parkview North campus. The move not only accommodated the demand for more space; it also enabled us to incorporate additional patient comforts, streamlined care, and new technologies into our practice.

Through all these changes, Fort Wayne Medical Oncology and Hematology has kept one thing in mind—you. No matter where our offices are located, or how many physicians join our team, we will always plan your treatment around you—your life, your needs, your comfort.

Whether through our convenient locations—bringing you all the cancer-related services you need in one place—or our brand-new facilities, offering snacks, beverages, window views and Wi-Fi, TVs, and DVDs players—we’re committed to providing individualized treatment plans based on the very latest in cancer research. It’s all designed with one thing in mind. You.
